It was awesome and indeed an atmosphere filled with Funfair as Rt. Hon. Prince Chibudom Nwuche celebrated the Christmas with children from different communities in Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality and the Executives of the Ekpeye Youths Congress (EYC).
The event which took place at Ochigba Community in Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State, the country home of the former lawmaker saw the exodus of numerous children and adults trooping in to celebrate Christmas with the former legislator.
Speaking to the children, he advised them on the need to respect their parents and guardians as enshrined in the bible book of Ephesians 6:1.
Prince Chibudom reiterated the need for the children to be respectful and love one another even as Christ loves the church.
The high point of the event was the dancing moments with the children and the presentation of gift items.
In another development, the leadership of the Ekpeye Youths Congress (EYC) ably led by Comr. Ogboka Umeda paid a courtesy visit to Rt. Hon. Prince Chibudom Nwuche to celebrate Christmas with him as a mentor of the youths and also use the same medium to have a chat with him on the way forward for the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation come 2020.
Comr. Umeda while rendering his opening remarks appreciated the Rt. Honorable for always accepting to see the Apex youth body in Ekpeye when they seek to see him, Umeda described him as a leader who is always accessible by his people and hence the reason his people love and support him.
While speaking, the EYC President- General decried the backwardness of the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation due to power tussle amongst her sons and daughters in positions of authority and the lingering misunderstanding ongoing among the monarchs of different kingdoms in Ekpeye Ethnicity.
A situation he sees as pathetic and needs urgent intervention by personalities like him. Comr. Ogboka pleaded with the Prince to wade in to avoid further damage hence wants the former lawmaker to make a bold statement on this issue.
While supporting the speeches of the president, Comr. Kennedy Imo, the EYC Chief Scribe registered his displeasure over what he described as "Unnecessary Crisis" going on amongst the monarchs in the Ekpeye Ethnicity, this he said will only lead to sewing seeds of discord and disunity amongst their subjects as loyalists of the monarchs will see themselves as enemies instead of working in synergy for the success of the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation.
The Secretary-General also pleaded that meaningful engagements should be provided for the youths who have sincerely denounced cultism and have been granted amnesty by the Rivers State Government, this he said will make them fit properly into the society.
Comr. Imo pleaded with Rt. Hon. Nwuche to make a bold statement that will ameliorate the plight of the Ekpeye People in 2020.
While responding to issues raised, a Prince of the Upata Kingdom, Rt. Hon. Prince Chibudom Nwuche, Esama Ekpeye Logbo thanked the EYC Executives for always finding time to visit him to brainstorm on issues bothering on the development of the Ekpeye People.
The former legislator also eulogized the youth body for working in unity and eschewing political party affiliations when dealing with critical issues of the development of the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation.
However, he frowned at the level some people play politics of bitterness and selfishness in Ekpeye which he opined slows down growth and development in Ekpeye.Especially those who pull their brothers down in order to either pander to the whims of outsiders or advance their selfish interest. These ultimately end up making no progress and not even advancing themselves after they have wrongly portrayed Ekpeye people as willing tools in the destruction of each other.
He advised political leaders who want the support of Ekpeye people to always seek out those the masses respect and listen, instead of trying to impose psychophants that are not regarded by the people as their supposed leaders. He urged the youths to resist such imposition and ensure that only those with a verifiable track record of transparent leadership qualities are enabled to lead them.
The Former Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives also frowned at the level some social media influencers insult, blackmail and tell outright lies against leaders on social media for pittances from opponents of such leaders, advising those in such act to desist as no nation grows with blackmailing and insulting of leadership.
He promised to wade into the feud between the monarchs of the kingdoms which he is optimistic, will yield positive results.
On his relationship with His Excellency, Chief Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, the former deputy speaker has this to say" You all know that the governor is not only our inlaw but also a very good friend, he has shown me true friendship and respected my father too and other traditional rulers in the state. "He has also demonstrated love for Rivers people by protecting them irrespective of tribe, tongue and Political affiliations and completed several developmental projects across the state, spanning all sectors from education, healthcare, social welfare, roads, and other infrastructure.
Rt. Hon. Chibudom revealed that Upata traditional stool was first to be upgraded to the first-class status, this he said has been the dream of his late father HRH Eze C. C Nwuche, Eze Igbu Upata II of blessed memory whom the Governor held in high esteem in view of his role in the development of Rivers alongside prominent sons of the state like Dr. Obi Wali, Chief Oriji, PG Warmete amongst many others.
